Praying with Scripture

a guide

· Every Day Faith

Not sure what to pray? You're not alone. Good news, you can use pretty much any verse as a prayer. How? So glad you asked! For the more entertaining version press play on the video, for the straight forward steps scroll down, and for a list of passages to start praying head to the bottom of the post!

The BIGGEST thing I will remind us all of: we are New Covenant people. We no longer pray the way people under the Old Covenant had to (old law, old testament).  If you are in the Old Testament, like Psalms, remember that everything you find there HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE by Jesus and is now in the past and present tense!  For more information about the Old and New Covenants and who we are now check out this video.

Praying with Scripture: originally through Instagram LIVE, please excuse all the greeting of people.

Step 1: Find Scripture about what you want to pray

Example: "I need to actually know how much God loves me." So you search, "verses about God's love for me" and voila, you'll get results with great scriptures you can start to pray right now!

Step 2: Make it Personal

The Bible is not by humans about God, but by God FOR humans. For you, specifically. Make each scripture personal, for you, inserting your name to make it real!

Example: John 3:16-18a

"For God so loved (your name) that He gave His only Son, that when (your name) beleives in Him, (your name) shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn (your name), but in order that (your name) might be saved through Him. When (your name) believes in Him (your name) is not condemned..."

AND THAT'S ALL!

This is just the beginning. Whatever scritpure stands out to you through various seasons of life is a perfect Word of God to speak in prayer! Enjoy the freedom and power of praying with scripture!
